Too bad about Between Two Fires! I've heard it's good, but I didn't particularly care for Those Across The River, so I've been holding off on reading it.
What made you decide to come up with your own setting to use in all (?) your stories? I tend to bounce around from location to location, but a lot of authors seem to prefer a more unified setting.
Between Two Fires wasn’t bad, it was just different in tone to A Game of Thrones and Joe Abercrombie (while still being dark). I was more in the mood for Joe Abercrombie.
My stories all have a standard Victorian aesthetic, but I have created a special branch of the police that never existed, and various characters at different level of social and economic status so it felt right to have them all come together in a new place.
Thank you for the question 😁 I don't get asked things about writing very often.

No problem. I enjoy chatting about writing.
