Welcome, dear readers, to the eerie and mysterious world of gaslamp horror, where the shadows hold secrets and the past casts a long, chilling shadow.
Several years ago, during the great plague of 2020 (COVID), I sat down and wrote a gaslamp horror story. It followed a young boy, an orphan and a chimneysweep, as he navigated the natural and supernatural threats on the streets of my fictional city, Violshire.
The following year, that story was published in a cold-themed horror anthology titled Served Cold.
The year after that, I had another story published in a horror anthology titled Lurking in the Dark.
I am thrilled to announce the forthcoming release of my collection of short stories, In Plain Sight, Unseen, where every flickering gaslight illuminates a tale of darkness and dread.
Inspired by the haunting ambience of Victorian England, each story in this collection offers a glimpse into the macabre and the uncanny, drawing upon themes of gothic horror and societal unease. From the cobblestone city streets to the desolate moors of the countryside, prepare to be transported to a time of both superstition and science where the unknown lurks in every shadow.
Among the tales awaiting you is one born from a real-life experience, where the lights of the town where I lived went out for hours, plunging me into a world of unsettling darkness. Another story introduces you to the depths of madness within a near-forgotten room at a lodging house.
In Plain Sight, Unseen also features linked stories that weave together a tapestry of terror, introducing you to a recurring character whose fate is intertwined with the darkness that haunts Victorian society.
And let us not forget the chilling spectacle of the freak show, where the boundaries between reality and nightmare blur into a grotesque tableau of horror.
Beyond the thrills and chills, these stories offer more than mere entertainment. They delve into the societal underbelly of Victorian England, shedding light on the plight of chimney sweeps, homeless orphans, and the forgotten souls who populate the fringes of society. Through their eyes, we glimpse the darkness that lurks beneath the veneer of civilisation, where monsters wear human faces and nightmares become reality.
So, dear reader, are you ready to embark on a journey into the heart of darkness? In Plain Sight, Unseen awaits, beckoning you to step into the gaslit streets and confront the shadows that dwell just beyond the light. Subscribe to my Substack to join me on this chilling adventure, as each story is unveiled, one by one, revealing the unseen horrors that lurk in plain sight.
Dare you peer into the darkness? The choice is yours.
Congrats!
Congratulations! Excited to check out the collection
